Sunderland striker Will Grigg is expected to stay the club following a week of serious interest from rival teams.According to Sunderland Echo reporter Mark Donnelly, the 28-year-old is on the plane with the squad, who are travelling to Portsmouth for their fixture tomorrow afternoon.[ad_pod ]Given that just over three hours remain in the transfer window before the 11pm deadline, it seems hugely implausible that a deal with any club could possibly be struck.Donnelly tweeted:
Grigg has been subject to bids in the past week from free-spending Salford City as well as their League Two rivals Bradford City but the striker rejected the chance to drop down a division.
He was also a target for Oxford United with their manager Karl Robinson publicly declaring interest in him yesterday afternoon. He said: “I want to buy Will Grigg and I want to buy a right-back. Griggy is obviously available and is someone I like. I think he can add to what we’ve already got.”
The former Wigan frontman has played 26 times in all competitions this season but has only found the net three times, once in League One with the Black Cats sitting fifth in the standings.
What could’ve been… Can you name the clubs these football legends almost joined?
And with him travelling down to Fratton Park, there must be a good chance of him being involved tomorrow afternoon.
