Per the Daily Mirror, the FA have decided that they want Southgate to stay as manager regardless of the outcome of Sunday's final against Spain. Southgate has guided England to two successive European Championship finals – the first men's manager to do so – and also to the first male final on foreign soil. While he is said to be open to taking a club job – he was linked with Manchester United – the FA are keen to reward eight years of progress. He also took England to a World Cup semi-final in 2018, and the quarter-finals in 2022, where they were beaten by finalists France.

The hope from the FA is that they can convince Southgate to stay until the 2026 World Cup, which is set to take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Three Lions have yet to learn who they will face in their qualification group.
