Their quarter-final clash against Venezuela ended in a 1-1 draw, after which the match went to penalties. The North Americans eventually emerged victorious by beating The Wine-Red 4-3 in the tie-breaker.

The debutants will now face Argentina in the last-four stage on Wednesday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Ahead of facing the reigning Copa America and world champions, the former Leeds United head coach claimed that his team has to display their best-ever performance if they want to reach the final of the competition.

Speaking to reporters after the game, the 50-year-old said, via OneSoccer's Oliver Platt: "Argentina will have to be the best match we’ve ever played and it still might not be enough. But, whatever. We’re going to go for it."
